Conventional power vises allow only two units to be mounted on the machine table, restricting simultaneous machining to two workpieces.

While dedicated fixtures can improve productivity, their manufacturing and maintenance costs are high. Reducing these fixture-related costs has become an important challenge for manufacturers.

Magnetically Clamp Multiple Workpieces at Once with an Electro-Permanent Magnetic Chuck!

With conventional power vises, only two workpieces could be machined simultaneously. By introducing an electro-permanent magnetic chuck, up to six workpieces can now be machined at the same time, increasing machining efficiency by a factor of three.

Eliminating the need for dedicated fixtures and switching to an electro-permanent magnetic chuck has dramatically reduced fixture manufacturing costs.

In addition, fixture interference issues have been eliminated, providing greater machining flexibility and improved accessibility.

The workpiece is first clamped from the side and aligned before machining the top surface. It is then clamped from above to machine the side surfaces.

Although dedicated fixtures have been used to improve machining efficiency, the cost of designing and manufacturing these fixtures is substantial. Reducing these fixture-related costs has become an important challenge.

Reduce Setup Time and Fixture Costs with an Electro-Permanent Magnetic Chuck

By using an electro-permanent magnetic chuck, the workpiece is securely held by magnetic force from below, enabling five-sided machining.

Because both face machining and side machining can be performed without changing the clamping setup, machining efficiency is dramatically improved.

Furthermore, replacing dedicated fixtures with an electro-permanent magnetic chuck has significantly reduced fixture manufacturing costs.

The Mechanism of Magnetization

The chuck features a combination of high-holding-force neodymium magnets and lower-holding-force Alnico magnets.

The magnetic polarity of the Alnico magnets is reversed by an electric current flowing through coils wound around them.

As illustrated in the magnetic circuit above, this configuration generates a powerful magnetic holding force of 1,250 kg per four poles at the chuck surface.
